We had a pretty large garage fire at 2 AM on Friday, September 11.
The fire started from a lithium ion battery in a golf cart and ended up burning for about 20 minutes. The garage essentially turned into an oven and got up to about 1100°F. My wife, brother-in-law, 3 young kids, and my puppy were all able to get out of the house safely in a matter of 60 seconds once the smoke alarms went off.
However, the contents in the garage didn’t fare as well.
We had a brand new Escalade ESV, a 600 hp 6 Series BMW, a rare Aston Martin Virage Volante, and a Ducati 999R all in the garage. All of the cars/bike were totaled out and with the smoke, contents, and cars the total damage was a little over $1 million.
We’ve been relocated to a small three-bedroom condo as it’s going to take 3 to 4 months to repair the house. I have since bought a brand new Escalade for my wife and a 2021 M5 competition for me.
The only good part about this situation is I still had my Humvee at The Auto Den and it was obviously damage free.
I wish I would have had all my cars there.
